The Importance of Spending Time With God Daily - Finding Time For Morning Quiet Time
Last week, I was speaking with my co-worker about how much better my days are when I spend time with God in the mornings. I told her that I feel like I have more patience and feel more relaxed when I step out of the house and into the world.
Sometimes leaving the house in the mornings can be stressful, especially if you have to get your kids ready in addition to yourself. It can be complete chaos if you aren’t prepared. Once you get out of the house and on to the road, traffic can also drive you a little crazy. These are just a couple of the reasons it’s important to slow down in the mornings and spend time with God before your day gets started.
The Importance of Spending Time With God Daily
Finding Time For Morning Quiet Time
When you give God the first hour or minutes of your day, you are setting the atmosphere and tone for your day and life. This time can be an opportunity for you to pray, read your bible or just worship God and reflect on His grace and your blessings. During quiet time you have the chance to read God’s truths about you and your life and are able to see these things more clearly through the day.
Spending time with God in the mornings will help you to go through your day with gratefulness and appreciation instead of dread and anxiety. You are able to use this time in the mornings to pray about things that you will be facing throughout the day. You can pray for people and situations that have been causing you stress.
This allows you to release your burdens and allows God to help you carry them. God cares about what you are going through and He never wants you to feel like you have to go through life alone. He is always there with you.
Finding Time For Morning Quiet Time
I know with our busy schedules it may not always be easy to have Quiet Time with God in the mornings. But I believe if you can find even 10 minutes in the morning it will make a big difference in your day. I wrote a post awhile back called Things I've Done To Improve My Morning Routine You can implement some things from that post to be able to make time in the morning such as:
Wake up a little earlier.
Start by setting your alarm to wake up just 15 minutes earlier to begin with. Over time you may increase that to 20 or even 30 minutes earlier depending on what time you get in bed. Setting my alarm so that I am up earlier gives me time to go slow in the mornings and still make it to work on time. This relieves SO MUCH STRESS! Try it! I believe just a little extra time makes a big difference.
Prepare the night before.
Another thing you could do to find time for quiet time with God in the mornings, is preparing the night before. Set out, or at least have an idea of what you are going to wear for work. This way you are not scavenging through the closet and drawers in the morning.
If you have kids, get their things ready for school the night before also. This will allow you to let them sleep in a little longer so you have more time alone for quiet time. It only takes a few minutes in the evenings but saves major time in the morning. Some people are super ambitious and will get all of their stuff together for the week on Sundays...I'm not there yet.
What If I Just Can’t Find Time?
If you just can’t find the time in the mornings for quiet time, I get it, it’s ok. Make it a priority to find time during your day to spend with God. This could be during your lunch break, during a walk or in the evening before bed.
Now friends, my challenge to you this week is to find time each day this week in the morning if possible to spend time with God. Come back and let me know if your week improved by doing this also.
